Grace

The sun inches up
The sky trips as it changes each minute a new shade of blue
The outline of the horizon becomes more distinct
The noises on the street a little louder
Another day the sun comes for a visit
Another afternoon she says grace

And what does she share on this afternoon
A drip of dew and a freshly harvested mint leaf
An egg played or apple dropped
A corn husked or a tomato picked
For her basket is abundant in the season of harvest

Another day the sun comes for a visit
Another afternoon she says grace

And what does she love on that afternoon
The song of the pouring rain or melody of the thunderstorm
The cold wind under a warm blanket
The dark clouds over a warm fire
For her bed is cozy in the season of waiting

Another day the sun comes for a visit
Another afternoon she says grace

And what does she prepare on this afternoon
The soils moist and readily tilled
The bees rejoicing, the birds call for mates
The slice of sunshine announcing the time
For her hands are dirty in the season of planting

Another day the sun comes for a visit
Another afternoon she says grace

And what does she weave on that afternoon
The reeds long, spindly, and reaching
The waters darting through channels, creeks, and hoses
Everything growing, budding, fruiting, alive and on fire
For her skirt is twirling in the season of dancing

Another day the sun comes for a visit
Another afternoon she says grace.
